does the license have to be installed somehow?
« on: April 09, 2010, 09:57:14 am »
When I buy a commercial license, does it have to be installed/activated somehow? How will you be able to validate my purchased license?
Thanks.

You have to add the license key that comes with the license certificate (your proof of ownership) into your <book> tag as parameter like
<book licensekey="1234567890" plugins=".. .. " .. >

The key can be checked with a ctrl-rightclick into the book (when it has focus, so probably you have to leftclick into the book first).
Then you see a little about box with the menu item "validate key" and the version number.

This enables us (and others) to check the validity of the license. We indeed already got hints from users pointing to commercial users without commercial license.
We actually do not waste our time in actively searching for "abusers", but if people tend to play unfair, we might outsource that ;-)

There's also a way to search with google for license keys; an interesting feature  also ;-)

Our experience so far is that our users/customers like our open and "based on trust" approach; and that companies for that little money do not want to run any risks.

Hopefully this answers your questions!

BTW, have you seen our latest tutorial: http://www.vservu.de/mz3-tut/index-tut-t1e.html ?

I tried entering some random value for the licensekey into the book tag but when I right click I just see the regular flash context menu.

I looked into the MegaZine class and saw that you're also adding a "About MegaZine3\tv + VERSION" item, but that's not visible either. Something must not be working right.

By the way, I'm working with your latest swc file. Should I just not care since the licensekey can also be found in the book definition file?

If you entered the license key as explained in the license certificate like:

<book licensekey="your key as list of numbers" .. .. .. >

It should show up in the "about window". The trick is, that FLASH has to have the focus!
Just <crtl> rightclick might only pop up the standard Adobe "about window".
But if you first left click and then <ctrl> right click again, that window should expand and show the version at the top followed by the option to validate the license key.

If you click on vailidate, the key will be checked against our data base.

Please enter your key as explained above.
If no license key is provided, the software runs under the built in "private/personal" key and should not be used commercially.
