For those who wondered about the frequent downtimes over the last
weeks, here's a quick write-up of what happened:
The previous server (Server A), running Windows Server, was getting
old, so I was about to migrate to a new server (Server B) anyway.
Thing is, Server A crashed shortly before I could transfer the data.
This caused the first downtime.
Luckily enough I could restore most of the data, and copied it over
Server B. After it ran a little more than a I week I started thinking
of how to back-up the data automatically to the FTP space provided
by the hosting service Server B is from. That's when Server B decided
to fail. Completely. Hardware failure, I was told, no way to get the
data back. That was the downtime over the last few days.
Most of the data of the MegaZine site I had locally, though, so it's
pretty much as it was before. So, now Server B was replaced by
Server C, which is up and running, mostly configured, but at the
state of two, three weeks back, because there is no newer backup.
Let's hope I'll have more luck with servers from now on...
