Megazine strange behavior
« on: August 30, 2009, 05:40:14 pm »
Hi,
I have tested megazine 1.38 on a couple OS/browers combinations.
All browsers IE 6-7-8 / FF 2.x-3.2.5 / Chrome / Opera 10.xx / Konqueror have latest flash player 10.0.32.18 installed.
Here are the results ...
Started with W2K / 2003 / XP / Red Hat / Linux  and Ubuntu on different laptops/desktops on different screen resolutions;

- Not using scaling - Full sized book 1080 x 750 pix, works ok when running the swf on my local server,
off course i can't see the whole book on lower screen resolutions.
However from a remote server, example
http://www.chaos.000space.com/mag/m2 problems with page loading occur. Lots of blank pages, no loading bar appears, images display partially etc. I have to browse several times through the book to see all pages correctly, in Opera most pages loading bar displays infinity.

- Using scaling doesn't work at all in above OS / Browsers, displays an empty web page no flash area vissible, no error messages, just nothing happens. This behavior occurs when setting width and height to 100% in swfobject.embedSWF. setting only width to 100% and height to a pix value of 800 works, but book appears very small.

- Scaling on Vista and Windows 7, however in IE 8 i have to zoom in 400% to see the whole book, also blank pages are displayed, all by all this gives me the BEST RESULT.
In Chrome on Vista and W7 the book size is very small, can't see the full 100% book size 1080 x 750 pix. even on a 1600 x 1200 or higher screen resolution, no blank pages or broken images here. same result with all unix clones and  Konqueror.

Since flash should display the same in all OS/Browsers and i don't have these probs with other flash applications, i can assume there's something wrong with the megazine code ?
Is there an example somewhere on the web where the scaling works correct ?

Few other remarks,
- The flash area doesn't have focus when a page is loaded. User has to right click first on the flash area to get the left and right cursor keys to work.
- The mouse-over event on page corners fries processors, between 92 and 98% load.
Also full screen mode takes to much processor load.
- Slide show does not work when on the first page.
- Space between navigation an book does not work barpos="bottom 20", there is no space in between.

I didn't have the time yet to explore all the other futures but i sure will the next coming weeks.

Sincerely, Karl
