MegaZine3 Variants

MegaZine3 can be used in different ways, and for each option different files are needed:

  1. Online / Server / Browser: swf
The Online version  makes use of any browser with FLASH support.
Usually this version is located on a server and accessed over the internet. That's why it also is called "Online version".
But: The files can be located locally on your desktop also, and still be viewed in a browser. This often creates problems because of FLASH's security checks ("sandbox").
  2. Offline / CD / Projector: exe / app
MegaZine3 titles also can be viewed without a connection to a server and without a browser.
Therefore it is called "offline version". Alternatively it's also called "CD version" because the file(s) can be saved on a storage media like a CD, DVD or memoery stick.
For that a "projector file" is needed. That file contains all: the MegaZine3 software and a version of the stand alone FLASH Player. That version depends on the operating system. Therefore a Windows and MAC version is provided.
  3. Megazine3 Standard vs FAT versions
The standard version makes use of a strictly defined folder structure. Different elements are located in dedicated folders. All GUI configuration files (ASUL files) are e.g. located in the megazine/gui folder.
This allows to substitute a default file with a modified one in an easy way.
Also button icosn can be exchanged easily. If one file is missing or spelled incorrectly, this will result in later problems when viewing the MZ3 title.
For the FAT version all needed elements like ASUL files, plugins, sound, icons, ... are bundled togehter in one megazine-fat variant. This makes it easy to manage (one single file to copy or transfer to the server).
It even is possible to bundle the content of the title in such a fat version. Which protects your content better than saved as separate files. But if modifications of the standard system are requested (like modified ASUL files), that FAT version must be built. A process that needs some skills. In a later tutorial this will be covered.
